DATES : Mark your calendars for an unforgettable football fiesta! The much-awaited tournament Durand Cup 2023 will kickstarts on August 3rd and promises an action-packed month of top-tier matches, culminating in a thrilling final showdown on September 3rd. This will be the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup
TEAMS : This season of Durand Cup will witness the participation of 24 diverse teams. Among these, 12 will be from the prestigious Indian Super League (ISL), showcasing the top talent in the country. Additionally, 5 teams will represent the esteemed i-League, renowned for its rich footballing heritage. Moreover, one team will join from the i-League 2, contributing to the tournament’s inclusivity. To further enhance the tournament’s flair and foster regional representation, one team will proudly represent the local region. In addition, the Durand Cup’s reach will extend beyond national borders, with the participation of 5 services teams, comprising three Indian teams, one Nepali team, and one team from Bangladesh, reflecting the event’s international appeal. With such a diverse array of teams, this season promises to be an exciting celebration of football, bringing together talent from various leagues and countries to compete for the coveted Durand Cup
FORMAT
GROUP STAGE: A total of 24 teams will participate in the competition, and they will be initially divided into six groups, each consisting of four teams. After the group stage, the top six teams from each group will advance to the next stage. Additionally, two best-performing teams from the second position across all groups will also proceed to the next stage.
KNOCKOUT STAGE: In the group stage, there will be six table toppers, representing the teams with the best performance in their respective groups. Additionally, two more teams, specifically the best-performing second-placed teams across all groups, will advance to the knockout stage. This exciting knockout stage will determine the ultimate winner of the competition.
